SEPTA PROJECT
This work is an ode to the SEPTA subway system. As someone who never really interacted with it before moving to a major city, I have a particular appreciation for public transportation and the opportunity it provides. Much of the piece is hand-sewn and embroidered and uses batting and quilting techniques featuring an incredibly complicated pattern
The imagery is specifically based on the Broad Street Line, but there are some elements of the El or Market-Frankford you may notice.I was also inspired by Joan Steiner’ series of vests modeled after private interior spaces, and applying the concept to public spaces.
